Report on the Nearly Easter Trophy 2012

Post  alcass on Mon Apr 02, 2012 3:16 am

A bright but surprisingly cold morning greeted the twelve boats in a force 4 northerly for the first of three short races with the best of two counting.
The first two races ran back-to-back with the cunning use of every single buoy making the option to use satnav a distinct advantage.
Ian Smith took the honours, followed by the closest of finishes between Mike Dawson in second and Steve Jose in third. A rudder failure on the Nigel and Yvette’s Fireball led sadly to an early retirement.

Having had time to wake up, Tom White gained second place to Smith in the second race and Jose added to his honours with third.

The final race had nine boats take to the water. Breezy conditions led to a number of capsizes, with Tisha leading the count but determinedly persevering and finishing in her best position of the day. Steve Jose added to his growing reputation by claiming first place, with Ian Smith having to settle for second and Tom White 3rd.

It was great to see some people take up their first race of the new season, and particularly good to see younger members Ben Cowling (crewing a Laser 2000) and Angus McKinney (RS Tera) enjoying their racing.

The final result?
  • First Ian Smith (RS 300)
    Second Steve Jose (Laser)
    Third Tom White (Laser)

Special thanks to Dave Sudds for his attentive work in the support boat, and to Zoe Cass for crunching the numbers.
